Nashville, TN Claire Schwab's exposure to design began while growing up in Charlotte, North Carolina where her parents' home was decorated with several pieces from the shop of her grandfather, an Atlanta based furniture maker and antiques dealer. After graduating from Vanderbilt with a degree in communications, Claire worked in the home furnishing division of Laura Ashley in London. There, reviewing furnishing before customer delivery. She learned firsthand how to recognize the hallmarks of quality and craftsmanship. After a move to Washington, D.C. she found her London experience dovetailing with her lifelong love of sewing and fabric. While working as the communications director for a trade association, she began working through the Washington, DC Laura Asley store, sewing soft furnishing such as duvets and dust ruffles and slowly amassing a following. She soon left her full-time job to focus on her business and and obtain a degree in interior design. She opened a show room and studio in Old Town, Alexandria back in 1994 and has been successfully running her business from her home studio since 2001. Claire describes her approach as traditional and comfortable with a customized flair. With her eye and training she creates pleasing spaces from one room to an entire house. Claire's firm possesses an energy, excitement and openness which shines through in their work. Claire's hobbies include sewing, snow skiing, tennis and classical piano. Her volunteer efforts have included activities with the Junior League of Washington, The Campagna Center in Alexandria, Young Entrepreneurs Organization, and donations to various silent auctions. Claire is a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), The Interior Design Society (IDS), and the Window Cover Association of America (WCM). In addition, she has been certified by The National Council for Interior Design Qualification and is a Certified Window Treatment Consultant. She and her associates have participated in five area show houses and three Holiday Home Tours. They have been published in seven various shelter magazines and the Home Sections of the Washington Post and the Examiner. Her passion for decorating and talent with fabrics, trim and appropriate design has proven to be a successful combination. Her portfolio is available upon request.		Memberships & Licenses
